As the title suggests, the movie  takes place in five distinct seasons, but  many years separate the seasons. Korean director Kim Ki-Duk  made it’s like beautiful fable.  Only a single set and a handful of characters he made such a nice wise movie. The film takes place in an isolated mountain lake, where an old monk lives on a small floating monastery with his disciple .  Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring  seasons and years pass by as the  lessons of  life not  only for a monk’s life, but everyone’s. The seasonal cycle in the film is symbolic of the cycle of life.
